INTRODUCTION DAY AT NEAR
Written: 26 JUNE 2003

Today I went to Aalesund to participate in the introduction day at NEAR. We're 5 Norwegian students in total who are going to the US. 1 is an advanced student (already in possession of a PPL). 4 of us were present at the introduction today, and it was good to meet the guys I'll be studying together with for the next 6 - 9 months. I already know Kapur, but to my surprise I also knew one of the other guys from the military!

The European part of the curriculum:
17,5 KGS

W e spent most of the day getting introduced to the program and the Training Manual, and generally getting better acquainted with both our fellow students and the personell at NEAR. I addition we were lucky enough to carry away the entire European curriculum, a total 14 books and 27 CD's weighing 17,5 kgs in total! This is going to occupy alot of space in my suitcase when I'm going next Friday.

An overview:
- Principles of flight
- Flight Planning
- Performance
- Meteorology
- General Navigation
- Powerplants
- Radio Navigation
- Airframes & Systems
- Instrumentation
- Air Law
- Mass and Balance
- Communication
- Operational Procedures
- Human Performance and Limitations
- 27 Computer Based Training CD's
- Jeppesen Airway Manual

As always the carrot comes in the end: The introduction to the flightsimulators located at the school. One of them being the Beech King Air 200 simulator. Highly satisfying to be allowed a chance to put the King Air down at Tromsø. This didn't exactly go as it should have when I was in the captains seat, basically because Ole Pederesen had this idea that I suddenly needed stormy weather, before he decided to cut my vision entirely.
