TAKE-OFF - MOVING TO THE US
Written: 04 JULY 2003

This page was updated on 06 July.

Finally the day has arrived. The day I've been waiting for since I was 14.

I got up at 04:30am to make it to Gardermoen in time, I met Kapur at Gardermoen with plenty of time to spare, but for some reason they had big problems checking us in, resulting in us having to run to the gate. But we did make the flight. Air France 1275 (737-500) to Paris - Charles de Gaulle. The flight was ok, although they managed to serve me the worst breakfast ever.

Ready to start my journey!

On board Delta 777

We didn't have much time to begin with, 45 minutes from landing to take-off. It didn't exactly help that we got in late to Paris. We did ALOT of running and barely made the flight with a 5 minute margin. Charles de Gaulle isn't exactly a small airport. We flew Delta 43 (777) to Cincinnati, a flight that lasted just about 9 hours.

We thought we had a bit better time in Cincinnati, but we were wrong. Only 3 out of 4 suitcases made it to Cincinnati, and our time was running out as we were in line for immigration. Fortunately this went smoothly, and after accepting the loss of our 2 suitcases we hurried off to the nearest Delta connection center. We were told to run as fast as we could to make the flight. Again we were the last passengers on board, but we made it.

We landed a little over 4pm at Myrtle Beach, just about 18 hours since I got up in Norway. We were picked up at the airport by Svein A. Brendefur who is the Norwegian representative here at NAIA. We went straight to Circut City where I made my fastest impulse purchase ever. A HP laptop (2.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD...). After doing a bit of gocery shopping we finally ended up at Conway Airport ( after a short stop at McDonald's (Told myself I would try to stay away from such food, but that promise didn't last long))

Finally at Myrtle Beach. In the background you can see the plane that brought me here, a CRJ from Delta Connection (Comair)

The trip went ok, even though the margins were small. We now have all our suitcases and are looking forward to Tuesday when the school starts!
