The day was finally here. The day I got to climb
into a Cessna 152, start her up and take off without
anybody by my side! All alone, only me, my Cessna
and the surrounding air. A feeling so magnificent
it's difficult to describe!
It started at 9am, when me and Kristian sat down
with Anna to review the presolo test, that makes
sure we're ready to go! After that I preflighted
the plane I took Anna for a short flight to see
if everything was in place. After two rounds in
the pattern, I taxied back in and Anna got out.
I restarted my engine and annouced my first solo
on the Unicom as I taxied towards runway 22. I thought
I would be nervous, but when I sat there at the
start of the runway, I really wasn't. I felt that
this is something I know how to do and that I was
ready for. Incredible feeling. I gradually accelerated
down the runway and rotated the nose towards the
sky at 50 kts before the rest of the plane lifted
off the ground and I was airborne! If anybody had
heard what was going on inside the cockpit, they
would surely think it was a mad man, cause there
were quite a few screams of joy as I ascended upwards!
I did 3 take-offs and 3 landings in total and
logged half an hour. I finished the whole thing
off with my best landing ever. Almost didn't feel
the wheels touch the ground!
Mandatory ceremony afterwards where I received
2 buckets of water after stepping out of the plane.
It was quite refreshing, cause the cockpit has a
tendency to become rather hot in the summer heat!
It is all captured on tape, so that I can look
back on my first solo when I reach 100!
Tomorrow me, Bernt and Kristian are going out flying
solo on the same time. We're all going out in te
practice area a couple of miles northwest of the
airport. Exciting, though I'm a bit afraid I'll
be having difficulty finding my way home. The scenery
here is so flat, it's hard to find good points of
