1000 HOURS
Written: 15 NOVEMBER 2004

I passed 1000 hours today around 10am on my way up to Sarasota on an IFR cross country with Nestor. It's a great feeling to finally reach my goal here in the States, and the plan now is to use the last weeks here to relax and enjoy life before I board the plane and move back home to Norway.

In average I've been flying 100 hours a month since I came here to Naples, which I consider to be quite good. The best month was October with around 140 hours. I originally planned to get 1500 hours, but I abandoned that goal before I even started working as a flight instructor and set my new goal to 1200. After thinking about it I couldn't find a good reason for having 1200 as my goal, so I readjusted it to 1000 which seemed like a nice figure. After a couple of months working as a flight instructor I figured out that I wanted to finish this as quickly as possible.

I handed in my resignation last week and my last official day at the school is next monday. Incredibly satisfying to give that letter to my bosses. I've still got 4 weeks left here in the States before I'm going home, so I'll try to travel a bit and enjoy myself as best as I can. Next week is Thanksgiving and then I'll be heading up to Kansas. I've also got another trip in mind, but we'll have to wait and see what it looks like in a couple of weeks. My goal for this week is to finish off my 3 students, which should be perfectly doable. The school has now hired 4 new instructors after 5 of us resigned within the last month.

In one month and one day I'll be on the plane back to NORWAY!
