FIRST FLIGHT OF THE YEAR
Written: 20 JANUARY 2005

I drove ut to Hamar on Tuesday to visit Kristian and go for a little flight. The weather on Tuesday looked fairly poor, but we woke up Wednesday morning to blue skies and perfect flying weather.

Hamar airport - Stafsberg is situated in the hills North of Hamar and has one runway (15/33) which is 2800 feet long and about 50 feet wide. The flying club has amongst other planes got 2 C-172s, and the plane we flew (LN-ALB) was pretty much similar to the ones we are used to from the States.

The flight went over Kristians house and continued North along Mjøsa past Lillehammer and up to Hafjell, before we turned the plane around and flew back to Hamar for some touch and gos. Flying in Norway is aboslutely fantastic, as there are actually some countours in the scenery. This makes the VFR flying much more interesting and makes navigation easier. Next trip we plan to make a little longer, perhaps up to Røros or Trondheim.

The days at home is mostly spent studying as can be expected. So far I feel I've gotten into a nice rythm and I'm getting close to having read through all the books one time. (Fortunately I got some reading done in the States).

Past LIllehammer Northwards. Left side of the
valley is Hafjell.

South towards Gardermoen. No matter how nice
the weather is everywhere else, Gardermoen
usually has low clouds and fog.

Stafsberg from the air. Not alot of activity,
but I guess that's normal for Norway.

Final runway 15 at Stafsberg. Some houses and
trees to watch out for, plus the fact that I'm not
very experienced with narrow runways covered with ice.

Me and Kristian in the air!
