Thanks to hostie Elise (excuse me.. cabin attendant),
I got the chance to join the pilots on Widerøes
morning flight to Copenhagen. We flew the Dash-8
Q400 which is the longest version in their fleet.
A beautiful and elegant airplane with a lovely glas
cockpit.
My alarm clock went off at 0500am (early for me),
so that I would make the departure 0640. The darkness
was still lying heavy over Torp, but as we got up
to cruise altitude over Skagerrak, we were met by
a beautiful sun coming up between the clouds. We
flew at FL240 down and FL250 back again, which is
maximum for this plane.
I sat on the jumpseat in the cockpit both ways
together with Captain Tim and First Officer Terje.
Both were very nice to me and supported my impression
that the work environment in Widerøe is very
good.
After about 50 minutes in the air, we got vectors
for ILS 22L at Kastrup. The weather was nice and
the visibility was good, so we quickly got the field
in sight. I have to applaud Captain Tims smooth
landing. The main gear touched down without me noticing
it.
I got 45 minutes at Kastrup, and in that time I
met one of the Danish students from Naples, who
was there while I was working as an instructor.
Small world.
We left Kastrup after changing planes, and landed
back at Torp an hour later, in good time before
my next simulator ride. More about the phase 5b
training when it is finished.
The flight definitely boosted my interest in applying
for Widerøe, which seems to be a good workplace
with exciting flying, nice planes and friendly staff.
