RED ARROWS
Written: 29 JUNE 2007

Upon returning to Inverness after a day of flying around the Hebrides yesterday we saw 9 Hawks from the Red Arrows parked outside our operations office.

They had a display north of Inverness yesterday, and to our joy they did a display today as well over Fort George which is about 5 km from the airport.

With a perfect viewing position, Kristian and I watched the display which lasted about 15 minutes.

The Red Arrows is Royal Air Forces display team and consists of 9 airplanes and 9 pilots. The requirements to join the team is to have completed at least one tour on fast jets like Tornado, Harrier or Jaguar and have flown at least 1500 hours. There are 3 open postions each year for which they normally get more than 30 applicants. The plane is the same as they use as a trainer at RAF Valley where we fly to from Cardiff.

Yesterday one of the planes had a birdstrike, so todays show was done with 8 planes.
