After passing Widerøes aptitude tests in
September I got invited to an interview in Oslo
which was held yesterday. After the interview I
was told that I would get a letter within two weeks
telling me if I was accepted or not, but 5 hours
later I got a phone call offering me a start date
in December or January.
Last time Widerøe did testing for the pilot
pool was in 2005 right before I finished flight
school, so I missed that. This time I was invited
to the testing day at Grand Hotel in Oslo 17 September,
so I flew back home from Scotland to participate.
The tests lasted all day and was a mix of various
IQ-, number-, memory-, scanning and speed tests
and we were about 50 hopefull pilots there. 12 days
later both Kristian and I got an e-mail inviting
us to the interview in Oslo, so we booked flights
home once again.
Because I live abroad I got the interview the last
day of interviewing. First thing I had to go through
was another two tests testing my concentration before
sitting outside the interview room waiting nervously
for them to call me in.
There were 7 people in the interview panel, but
though it might sound scary, they did a very good
job creating a good atmosphere. After half an hour
going through what I have been doing since high
school and my flying experience the interview was
over.
Originally I have 3 months notice period at Highland
Airways, but they have kindly agreed to me leaving
31 December and I now have a confirmed start date
of 7 January. This was all sorted out on my way
to Gardermoen this morning on my way back to Inverness.
As we boarded the SAS plane to Copenhagen, Kristian
also got the phone call with a job offer.
When I came home to Norway last Friday I was hoping
that I would get back to Scotland slightly wiser
as to how my future would look, but to get a confirmed
start date exceeded my wildest expectations.
