It was finally time to fly the plane, after almost three weeks of Easter vacation after the simulator. It is mandatory to do at least 6 landings in the actual airplane before we get the rating on the license.
I travelled up to Bodø on Friday afternoon and together with Christian (the captain candidate I flew with in the simulator) and the instructor Asle, we got a plane at our disposal from 10pm. Not only were we going to go out and land the plane, but to add to the challenge we flew out to one of the short fields that Widerøe operates into.
I started off doing 3 landings in Bodø to get the feel for the airplane. This was the first time I was behind the wheel in the actual plane (even though the simulator is as close to the real thing as it gets, there´s a different feeling sitting in the plane).
Then I changed seats and sat on the jump seat while Christian did a couple of landings in Bodø before we flew to Skagen (Stokkmarknes in Lofoten) which is approx 900 meters long. Unfortunately when it was my turn to play, we had a technical issue and we decided to fly back to Bodø to get the engineers to look at it.
So my short field landings were postponed to Saturday afternoon. The instructor and I flew back out to Skagen and LN-WIP was fortunately behaving while I did the landings.
I´m travelling up to Tromsø on Tuesday to start my first week working on Wednesday. Unfortunately I´m starting my carreer in Widerøe on standby, but according to the schedule I´m flying on Thursday :)
