Exactly to the day 5 years after I boarded the plane heading to the States to start flight school, I got my final release line check. This means I´m now a fully qualified First Officer at Widerøe. I´ve done all the training and got all the signatures required, and I´m now ready to fly with the rest of the captains.
The last couple of weeks I´ve added both parts of Western Norway and the rest of Finnmark to my repertoire. I don´t have many airports left before I´ve had a taste of everything.
Flying on the west coast of Norway is absolutely amazing with its massive dramatic mountains, waterfalls and deep fjords. It was obviously not easy placing the airports around some of the west coast, but they managed it somehow. I flew into Sandane, Sogndal, Førde and Bergen the week I was flying out of the Gardermoen base.
Up north in Finnmark (all the way on top), I got a taste of Mehamn, Berlevåg, Båtsfjord and Vadsø this week. I was scheduled to fly more around the coast of Finnmark, but when I woke up in Vadsø early Thursday morning the fog had drifted in over land. After waiting in vain for the fog to lift, we ended up driving two hours in a taxi to get to Kirkenes. The fog was all over the coast of Finnmark, so we flew direct to Tromsø after most of the flights got cancelled.
I now how a couple of days in Finnmark with a regular captain before I have a week off.
And last, but not least, pictures:
