MERRY CHRISTMAS
Written: 17 DECEMBER 2010

After almost four months based in Bergen on the West coast of Norway, I can't say I miss the communting to northern Norway. We have also moved from Oslo to Bergen, which means I no longer commute at all. Living where I'm based is a whole new life compared to commuting, as I can be home on standby and don't have to be away for one week at the time.

The flying down here is also quite different. I've mainly flown on the regional routes, but also on the short fields along the West coast flying from Oslo Gardermoen. As the short fields up North, the ones down South also have their peculiarities when it comes to wind and weather, so it's been nice with new challenges after over two years up North. The regional routes out of Bergen mainly consistst of routs to Kristiansand, Stavanger, Haugesund, Molde and Kristansund. In addition we fly to Aberdeen and Newcastle, and some flights into and out of Sandefjord Torp (near Oslo).

There's not much doubt that winter has come to Norway. Fortunately our airports are slightly better prepared than other airports around Europe, but with winter comes snow, and with snow comes delays. And if the snow doesn't make things difficult for us, then Oslo Gardermoen has a tendancy to disappear in fog while most of the area around is sky clear on cold winter days.

The best of wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :)
