4 YEARS AT WIDERØE
Written: 08 JANUARY 2012

Yesterday was my 4 year anniversary at Widerøe. 4 years since I started the first officer course in Bodø in preperation for the Dash-8 type rating. The day went by without further ceremony, but when I show up for work on Wednesday I will have an extra set of stripes on my shoulders. Other than this little detail, not much is different. The next and final stripe comes together with upgrade to command, which is still quite a few years into the future.

Everybody at Widerøe is waiting patiently for the result of the tender to fly most of the routes out of the short field airports in Norway for the next 4 to 5 years starting 1 April this year. With just 2 1/2 months left, the Department of Transportation is a bit behind schedule in announcing the winners, but they promise that the result is right around the corner. The Norwegian Airline Pilots Association has commended on the lack of requirements for Norwegian salary and conditions, but the Department has rejected this despite the Governments continued claim to fight social dumping.

The winter amazingly showed up this year too, but with exeption of a couple of days with lots of snow, the snow hasn't created too many problems. On the other hand, there has been a steady queue of low pressure systems from the west resulting in many windy days at work.
